Being Missional

MPC seeks to be a missional congregation, seeing mission as integral to who and what the Church is, and as an act of worship in our triune God. Because the Triune God sent Jesus Christ to the world, and the Father through Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit, who in turn empowers the Church to be sent in the world so that all may be gathered in communion to the Triune God, MPC endeavors to equip, send, and gather God’s people for worshipful mission and missional worship.

We do this in the following ways:

Fellowship Gatherings

  • The OASIS Fellowship (Older Adult Society in our Savior):  gathers the 1st and 3rd Mondays for lunch, Scripture reading, hymn singing and sharing of our life and life’s stories
  • Seasonal Fellowships: during the Lenten season and other “special” times during the year, the Church engages in sustained discussion, reflection, and engagement with the biblical text, the richness of the Reformed tradition and the Church ecumenical, and contemporary events.

Mission Team

  • In 2007, MPC sent a team of 12 to Mississippi for post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts.
  • We seek to participate in God’s mission in the world through tangible action by deploying mission work teams in this area, region, and around the world.
  • We have partnered with the Relief Bus ministry (www.reliefbus.org) based in Elizabeth in supporting urban missionary, Lance Farrell, and in engaging in hands-on mission as the Relief Bus serves a meal to homeless populations in the city of Newark and engages in conversations with people on the streets to discover the face of Christ in those often neglected by society.

Middlesex Presbyterian Pre-School

For more than three decades, the Middlesex Presbyterian Pre-School (www.middlesexpreschool.org) has provided high-quality, affordable pre-school Christian education for families in this area. Staffed by committed and long-serving individuals and a supportive Board, our Pre-School serves approximately 90 families each year and has begun a summer program beginning in 2009. The community continually attests that our pre-school is the # 1 pre-school program in the Dunellen-Bound Brook-Piscataway-Greenbrook area.

FISH, Inc.

For over 25 years, the FISH, Inc. of Dunellen has been serving the needy in our area providing food, clothing, and shelter. MPC provides financial support as well as serves as an official collection site of used clothing, which is then transported by MPC members to the FISH, Inc. center.

Somerset County Jail Chaplaincy

Heeding Jesus Christ’s words to care for the “least of these,” MPC has, for a number of years, partnered with the Somerset County Jail chaplaincy program in ministering to the inmate population of the county jail.

Annually, MPC prepares gift packages of more than 6000 cookies accompanied with Gospel tract booklets, as a means to share the Good News of God to those neglected by society.

Diaconal Ministries

Our active Board of Deacons administers a Benevolence Fund and Loan Fund, which together help the financial needs of families and individuals in the Church and community. The Deacons have also sponsored luncheons for senior residents of the Wachung Terrace apartments located across the street from the MPC campus, as well as assist the Pastor and elders in attending to the pastoral care needs of MPC members and their loved ones.

Financial Support

Even as a small congregation, MPC generously supports the ministries of the following:

  • Elizabethport Presbyterian Center: a faith-based, non-profit social service agency in Elizabeth, NJ that provides services and programs for seniors, children, youth and families since 1965. Visit www.eportprescenter.com
  • WATOTO Children’s Ministries: a mission in Uganda to equip Ugandan children to have a lasting impact on their country for the kingdom of God. Visit www.watoto.com

We invite you to join us as we seek to respond to God’s call to be Christ’s witnesses here and in the world!
